Cover-Ups
Transform unwanted tattoos with clean, long-lasting cover-up designs
Cover-ups are one of Alex Moro’s specialties — turning old or unwanted tattoos into bold, polished designs with longevity in mind. Instead of simply hiding the previous tattoo, Alex rebuilds the area with strong contrast, rich saturation, and intentional composition. The result is a clean, cohesive piece that looks fresh, ages beautifully, and feels like it was always meant to be on your skin.
What You Can Expect
— An honest assessment of what is possible and what isn’t
— A custom design built around the existing tattoo’s shape, size, and undertones
— Smart use of contrast, saturation, and composition to achieve full coverage
— A final piece that reads clean, intentional, and long-lasting — not “patched over”
Every tattoo style has its own specifics, process, and requirements. To help you feel confident and well-prepared, here are the key things clients usually want to know in advance.
— How the old tattoo’s darkness affects the cover-up
Existing pigment can only be successfully concealed with tones that are darker than what’s already in the skin. Trying to cover an old tattoo with lighter colors always results in the original lines showing through as it heals.
— Why portraits and light skin-tone elements don’t work for cover-ups
Portraits, designs with fair skin tones, and artwork built around soft light values are not suitable for covering old tattoos. These styles rely on subtle shading and very light pigments, which cannot overpower the dark existing ink beneath. Even with expert application, light tones will always reveal the previous tattoo once the piece begins healing.
— What designs work best for successful cover-ups
Dark, high-contrast concepts are the most effective for fully concealing old tattoos. Themes like cosmic elements, skulls, dark fantasy, horror, or rich textured patterns naturally overpower existing ink. These designs allow for strong shapes, deep values, and dense pigment saturation — all essential for a clean, long-lasting cover-up result.
— Whether laser lightening is recommended
Laser isn’t required for every project, but even 1–2 sessions can significantly expand design options — allowing for cleaner color transitions, better detail, and a more natural final result.
